A Guide To Buying Kids Furniture

A child’s bedroom is his own private space: somewhere to relax, sleep and play. To help your child be happy in his room, it is important to do everything you can to make the space inviting, fun and above all comfortable. If you are redecorating your little one’s bedroom, here are some tips on how to choose the perfect furniture to make him love the space.

Measure Up

Obviously, one of the most important factors is to make sure everything will fit in the room. Measure the room accurately, take notes and do some sketches if you feel it is appropriate. Ask the furniture manufacturer or look online for precise measurements of the products you plan to purchase. It is worth doing a little planning now to avoid any disappointment and stress when you realise your brand new furniture is too large to fit into the room easily.

If your child is a big fan of something in particular perhaps dinosaurs, football, fairies or a certain television character consider investing in decor or furniture which features this. Do consider, however, the fact that children can move on quickly to new fads and preferences, so it may be best to decorate the furniture with removable stickers, pictures or posters rather than spending money on expensive character-based pieces.

To brighten up the room for a boy or girl, think about buying furniture in primary colours or even painting a mural. The ambience of the room should be playful and colourful, yet also calming and relaxing! The colours you choose can help create the ideal environment. Blue and green foster relaxation and calm, whilst reds and yellows are energising.

Safety and Durability

Safety is of utmost importance when buying furniture for a kid’s room. Avoid sharp edges and corners, or invest in some corner cushions or buffers to protect your little one. Young children are investigative by nature so think about how to avoid little fingers becoming trapped in drawers or doors; in particular, look for slam protection and cushioned closings.

Durability is equally as important as safety; kids bounce on beds and climb on furniture, so everything needs to be strong and sturdy. It is also imperative that everything is easy to clean and fabric components are easily removable and washable.

What to Buy

Generally, most children will need a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, perhaps a toy box and, for older children, somewhere to study. This doesn’t have to resemble school science lab furniture  just a basic desk or computer table will suffice.

To save space, or for smaller bedrooms, multi-functional furniture pieces are a great choice. Perhaps a cabin bed with a desk incorporated underneath, a bookshelf with cupboards below or beds with pull-out storage (or even another guest bed) stored underneath. Make sure that all clothes, toys and books are easily within your child’s reach and easy for him to tidy away (not that he will!).

Finally, think about your children’s personalities and their likes and dislikes. You want your little ones to be comfortable and content in their room, so it’s vital to make sure that they will enjoy every minute of their time playing, sleeping, running, crawling in their brand new bedroom.

Drainage Cover

If there’s one thing a person should be careful with that is stepping to a manhole cover or ditch.   The covers are made to prevent anyone from falling, though in my case I was too careful. The ditch in front of my aunt’s store was not covered it was opened and because my older cousin made a bamboo bench in front of the store he also made some bamboo fence to cover and support the person sitting near the ditch or canal.

One day we are planning to go to town but as my mother forget something she returned to our house so I sit on the bench together with my relatives, and while having a chat one of niece from a cousin extend her arms for me to carry her, so I took her from my aunt. I stand and when I did it I fall into the ditch together with my little niece that surprised everybody. I asked them to get the kid from me but nobody did they are all shocked and when someone did I went up quickly my niece was not hurt because I am supporting her with my body though she cried when she saw me stuck inside.

I didn’t know what I got until I went inside our house and saw my small toe nails bleeding, I also got bruises on my arm, thigh and legs. I didn’t feel pain but after few minutes I did, I was asked to took some medicines to kill the pain after they put ointment to my bruise and bleeding toe.  We still went to town afterwards even though I can’t walk straightly,  days had passed and it became more painful that I want to used a roll-a-bout in order to walk. It turns out my toenails cut opened.

So it is really important to use a cover that can support any size of people rather than using wood or bamboo sticks that can be easily out grown.

10 Ways to Make a Small Room Appear Larger.

A small room can be either the bane of your life or the special place you retreat to when you need to escape from the world into your own private haven. It’s not so much the lack of floor space that makes small rooms feels cramped as it is the size, type, colour and arrangement of the furniture and accessories you bring into it. If you’re battling with small-room blues, see if these few tips can’t help you get the most out of your private spaces.

Choose Furniture Wisely

For small bedrooms, choose a slightly smaller bed. Beds come in a large range of sizes these days, so you’re not restricted to either standard singles or doubles.

Lose the oversized, old-fashioned items that were popular in bygone days. Choose modern furniture with clean, simple lines that don’t create eye clutter through too much ornamentation. You can buy white bedroom furniture online, which makes choosing and buying a breeze.

Make furniture work doubly hard by doubling up on uses. In the bedroom, if you can store both clothes and shoes in one large piece, you’ll free up floor space that would be lost through having two smaller storage units. In the living room, a coffee table that opens up to reveal storage can hide away remote controls or games.

Back in the bedroom, under the bed storage is great for all those items you need but don’t access every day, such as spare blankets or pillows.

Consider wall shelves. They’re up off the floor, look sleek and modern and provide a great area for books, DVDs, ornaments or personal effects.

Use Colour Sparingly

As the fashion for brighter, bolder colour takes hold, it’s tempting to fall for the large patterns that abound in modern wallpaper. If your room is small, try to avoid an overlarge pattern in your wallpaper. It will make the wall draw in and give the room an even smaller appearance.

Choose one wall as your accent wall and indulge your love of bold patterns on that wall and nowhere else. The feature wall will draw the eye, lifting attention from the small floor space.

Neutral colours are always in fashion and it doesn’t have to mean beige. Paint your other walls with a gentle, complementary colour that’s light and refreshing. It will push those walls back, giving the illusion of greater space.

Remove the clutter from small rooms. Avoid having too many small things littering your surfaces by having storage boxes or baskets on shelves. Keeping surfaces clean and clear creates a restful atmosphere.

Put attention where you want it by creating a focal point. This can be a favourite picture hanging over the sofa, a bright spray of flowers in a colourful vase on the dresser, or bold curtains pulled back from the window. The idea is to remove attention from problem areas and instead direct it to an area that’s more pleasing. Although the focus is one area, this somehow manages to lift the whole room.

Small rooms needn’t be cramped and uncomfortable. With a little forethought for how the room is used and which furniture items are needed, you can create a space that not only seems spacious, but is also restful and pleasant to be in.

Stump Removal

As early preparation to build our house we decided to removed the trees that will hinder the  construction.  One of those is the star apple tree or caimito tree, it was saw and cut to pieces but the stump still remains on its location. Just this month we hired someone to remove and it took him few days to do because of bad weather, typhoon to be exact. The ditch is keep filling up so he needs to remove the water all the time he wants to dig deeper.

As it feels like the stump was already hard to remove he decided to call someone who owns a sawing machine but it turns out it can’t be saw anymore because the stump has a stone between the roots and it will damage the machine it they continue to do so.

Well with the help of two other people they are able to remove the stump with the use of axe, bar and shovel.

Quality Sound at Home

There are times when our town celebrates fiesta there is battle of the band competition. Most of the band that joins has their own guitar and other music instruments though sometimes the sound quality is not good especially when they are already hooked up to the big speakers. I guess our town needs something like kontrol s4 from guitar center which is also helpful when there is ball or disco after the awarding ceremonies.

Well if you have a music room or dreaming to be a professional DJ this instrument is a good investment so you could have a quality music and sound at home or at work.

Designing Your Own Furniture

Buying furniture nowadays is really expensive especially if it comes in good quality woods. Although there are cheaper ones available, if it is compared to those quite pricey products, not all guarantees their consumers with good qualities. Thence, it’s still optimal to purchase those comes with higher value with greater quality.

But since woodworking can be done all by self, it would be a great idea if one creates his or her own wooden furniture instead of buying one in the market or retail store which cost much. With just router bits, wood and other tools… instantly a new set of furniture is ready! It’s pretty easy though; just make sure that person has the will to learn the particular field.

Creating furniture depends on the style and size one is creating. But if the person doesn’t have much idea about it, learning the basic would help. Aside from woodwork task, wood carving is also nice to learn and at the same time perfect for woodworking projects.

Carving is one of the ways on how to beautify one’s furniture. Although this particular thing needs patience and little hard work, sure thing it will be worth the effort and time in the end. In this way, people could design their finished products according to what they desire. It can be in flower, animals, letter forms and so much more!

For those who prefer to create their own furniture rather than having one from the market, this stuff is what they should look for. It doesn’t just teach on how to work our own furniture but it also helps individual to save more!

The Canal

When a typhoon visit Philippines last month I was there, our province was in signal # 2. The wind was very strong and after few hours heavy rain came. There was no problem if there’s no flood, yeah right the water from the field went out the street and came to our houses. The main reason was the street canal made by someone who said to be an engineer was too small to accommodate the water so guess what the water overflows from the canal.

Same problem with the irrigation canal beside us, it was also too small that when there’s large amount of water when they opened the dike it was flooding in our place.  Dunno what are they thinking when they made it, because it looks like just  a toy or house canal.

Safety Cutters for Home

Their are shrubs planted on our backyard that separate our house from the nearby rice fields. When we came home the gumamela was already  blossoming and growing bigger. We trimmed this occasionally when  they are too bigger and making our backyard darker, unlike before that we just do it alone we hired my cousin’s husband to trimmed the shrubs for us because our bolo is not in good condition.

My cousin in-law doesn’t owned safety cutters so he also used his jungle bolo which he sharpened time to time when it won’t cut the shrubs anymore. While he is cutting the plants I was busy carrying them to the pit to the burn,  the smoke is good for trees like mango to develop flowers and as well as to avoid mosquitoes lingering around the dark part of hour house.

Hollow Blocks

These are the hollow blocks at home that we are going to use for our house construction. They are not complete yet,  we still need more hollow blocks and other things to start building our house. Little by little we are trying to save money so we can start it as soon as we have complete materials so far all we need are cement and different kind of steels.

My father said we should have the money soon because the hollow blocks are not getting any better when the day passed by. They will broke and get older.

Orchids

If there’s one thing you will admire on my grandmother’s house that is her orchids. They are healthy and flowering, the stems are big and mighty. Her secret, every morning she will water them with pee from her chamber pot. No less, no more! You can also try this on your home if you want your orchids to bloom like this. 🙂

When I was still a little kid I have learned from her that watering the orchids with the water waste from washing the rice beforre cooking is healthy because it will help the orchids to have more roots. I have proved it but the problem though, there are rice grain sometimes so the ants are having a feast on our drift woods.
