How to Prepare For Moving Interstate: Top Tips and Tricks

Moving interstate is a huge venture that requires even more careful planning than a local move. While it might seem like a daunting process, with proper preparation your interstate move can go from stressful to a smooth process that you may even enjoy. From working with professionals to strategic travel options: this article gives you the essential tips and tricks to help prepare for your big move across state lines.

Start Planning Earlier Than You Think

Interstate moves require more preparation time than your average residential move and the earlier you start, the more likely you are to have the move you hope for. Typically, for moving interstate you should start to plan around 8-12 weeks before your moving date. This gives you plenty of opportunity to book your interstate removalists of choice as well as any other services you may require.  You’ll also need time for organising necessary paperwork and documentation for your new state, setting up utility transfers and connections, planning your travel arrangements, and setting up your life in your new home before you get there. Great planning is the key to any successful interstate move, so the more in-depth your plan is the better your chances are of maintaining organization and reducing stress.

Research Interstate Removal Companies Thoroughly

A great removals team is like the equivalent of a fantastic bra, they’ll both give you the support you need. Interstate removalists are there to make your moving journey as easy as possible so it’s good to know what to look for in a company. Your movers should have proven experience in interstate relocations and should be AFRA (Australian Furniture Removals Association) accredited. These companies should have excellent reviews specifically for interstate moves, offer a range of comprehensive insurance options for long-distance transport, and provide clear communication about delivery timeframes and tracking.

Expert tip: Get at least three quotes and ask specific questions about their interstate moving experience, including if they work off of a fixed price quote or hourly rate charge. You want a fixed-price quote for your interstate move to avoid unforeseen charges.

Financial Planning for Interstate Moves

Interstate moves can be quite a costly process, so creating a clear budget is necessary to avoid financial strain down the line. Your budget should account for removal company costs, travel expenses for you and your family, temporary accommodation if needed, insurance costs, and connection fees for utilities in your new state. Always set aside emergency funds for unexpected expenses, particularly with interstate moves, and consider potential storage costs in case of delays to your moving schedule.

Declutter Before You Pack

Interstate moves are typically charged partly by inventory size, making this the perfect opportunity to seriously declutter. When assessing your belongings, consider when you last used each item and whether it’s worth the cost of transporting it across state lines. For items that you no longer love or need, consider selling or donating them to give them the chance at a new life. This is also a great opportunity to involve your children as they can sort through their old toys and belongings to see what they want to give to help others. Remember, every item you don’t need to move interstate saves you both money and effort.

Pack Strategically for Long-Distance Transport

Packing for interstate moves requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure that belongings receive minimal damage throughout the long transport. Start with high-quality packing materials such as sturdy boxes and packing paper specifically designed for moving. Make sure to use extra padding to double wrap any fragile items and seal all liquids in plastic bags to prevent leaks during the long journey. When labelling, include both origin and destination rooms, and create a detailed inventory list, including photos of valuable items. Don’t forget to pack an “interstate essentials” box with items you’ll need immediately upon arrival.

Alternatively, your removals team should also be able to go that extra mile and offer additional services like packing which can be particularly helpful for interstate moves.

Plan Your Travel Wisely

Just like moving your belongings, you’ll need to coordinate your personal interstate journey. Most of the time your two main options are driving or flying. If driving, map out your route and plan accommodation stops along the way. Try to time your arrival to coincide with your belongings, but have a backup plan if your items are delayed. If delays are likely to incur then your best option is to speak with your interstate removalists regarding the possibility of interim storage.

Set Up Your New Life in Advance

Feeling comfortable in your new home will inevitably take time but sorting the basics before you arrive can help you settle in quicker. Take proactive steps to establish your new life by researching and arranging schools or childcare, transferring or setting up new banking arrangements and updating your utility providers in both your old home and your new one. Before moving you can even start looking for new healthcare providers and research your new local services and amenities. If you’re looking to build a community in your new area, consider joining local community groups to start building connections with your neighbours – this will help you settle in quicker to your new home.

Prepare for a Different Climate

If you’re moving to a state with a different climate, you’ll need to plan accordingly. Research typical weather patterns in your new area and consider what clothing and household items you’ll need first-hand. For states that experience a rainy season, it’s important to ensure that you are prepared for sporadic changes of weather conditions. Finally, think about how your furniture and belongings will fare in the new climate, for example, items like plants are most likely better off left with family and friends in the state you’re currently in than enduring that transport.

Stay Organized and Flexible

Interstate moves often come with unexpected challenges, so staying organized is crucial. Maintain a detailed moving checklist and keep important contact numbers readily available. Always keep essential documents with you during the move rather than packing them with your belongings and try to maintain a schedule as much as possible. However, whilst sticking to your schedule is great, having flexibility is even better for a successful interstate move.

Top tip: When creating a plan allow a window of a few extra days for major moments in the move such as packing and the physical move, this way you won’t be put out if hurdles arrive and delays incur.

Summary

Moving interstate is a significant undertaking that requires extensive planning and preparation, but with proper organization and foresight, it can be a much more manageable experience. Start early, research thoroughly, and stay organized throughout the process. Remember that professional interstate removal companies have extensive experience with these types of moves and can provide valuable guidance and support throughout your journey.

By following these tips and maintaining a positive attitude, you can make your interstate move a successful transition to your new home and life in a different state. Remember, while the process might seem overwhelming at first, thousands of people successfully complete interstate moves each year, and with these helpful tips, you can too.

5 Ways to Slash Your Moving Costs Without Cutting Corners

Moving into your new home is undoubtedly an exciting experience but with all that excitement can occasionally come money concerns. Whilst some costs are inevitable (unfortunately, they can’t give you the house for free) there are a few tricks that can help alleviate some of that unwanted financial burden. From pre-move purging to a backloading bonus, here are some of the best ways to reduce costs in your next house move.

1. The Great Pre-Move Purge

You wouldn’t pay lots of money for a T-shirt you were never going to wear or for a car when you don’t yet drive, so, why would you pay for movers to take belongings that you’re never going to use again? Whilst, you may feel like you don’t have the time to declutter all the old belongings you no longer use, it is the perfect way to save money when moving. Those mysterious garage boxes and dusty closets are all hiding potential savings.

To help eliminate unwanted items, create three piles: sell, donate and chuck. Every box that doesn’t make the move represents money saved on moving costs. Better yet, those items in the sell pile can transform into extra cash for the moving fund, it’s a win-win situation!

2. Invest in Quality Movers

Now, something that might surprise you is that sometimes spending a bit more upfront can save you a fortune later down the line. Although, it may feel slightly counterintuitive to spend more money in order to save money, when it comes to hiring removalists investing in a good quality company will prevent greater unforeseen costs and disappointment from arising. Choosing reliable removalists minimizes the risk of damage to your belongings with professional services like wrapping and packing providing an extra layer of protection to your most precious items. Additionally, any certified removals company should also offer a range of insurance options, so that in the case of an accident your belongings are covered.

Qualities such as these will not only help give you peace of mind that your belongings are genuinely being cared for but they will save you the cost of replacing any items that are broken or damaged, which could be far greater than the cost of any removalist itself.

3. The Art of Box Hunting

High-quality packing supplies aren’t exactly cheap which means finding a good alternative can save you some extra pennies when it comes to packing your goods. Tapping into your network of friends and colleagues should help to churn up enough boxes to cover your whole house, which means you won’t have to buy a single one. Here’s the crucial part though – you have to be picky. If a box is worn down and looks like it’s had its day then stay far away. On the other hand, did your work just have a huge delivery of fragile goods? Then stock up. Being picky with boxes may take a little longer but will also ensure your favourite glassware set stays intact in the moving transition without multiple rolls of tape wrapped around it to hold it together.

4. Timing is Everything: The Off-Season Moving Hack

Here’s an insider tip that could save you big bucks – spring and summer are the moving industry’s equivalent of peak-hour traffic. Everyone’s moving, prices are sky-high, and availability is tight. Therefore, if you can swing an autumn or winter move, try to book your removalists within this period and save yourself a heap of money. During slow periods moving companies often offer reduced rates and competitive prices that peak months won’t do.

In the same respect, you should also be doing all that you can to reduce obstacles for your removalists that could slow them down, particularly for local moves that are charged by the hour. Make sure to disassemble any furniture, pack all boxes ready to go and make sure there is a clear path for your removalists to travel from the truck to the door. If your moving team has to carry your belongings further than necessary or take apart bed frames, these are all additional costs for you. So, get your bargain-hunting mindset on, and make sure to work in off-peak periods.

5. Share the Journey

Planning an interstate move? Here’s a savvy money-saver tip – opt for a consolidated run rather than a VIP private service. This backloading service is basically just carpooling for your furniture and will save you a tonne of money! However, sharing truck space with other movers requires a relatively small inventory, so if you have a particularly large amount of stuff to be transported across states, then a consolidated run may not be an option for you. Backloading also means that you will need to be a bit flexible with dates, so allow for plenty of time to prepare. With that being said, the money savings that you will make are worth every day of patience and with a reputable moving company, your belongings are just as safe as they would be in a truck of their own.

In Conclusion

Remember, saving money is as simple as just getting the cheapest moving quote and crossing your fingers that it’ll all be fine because that’ll probably cost you more in the long run. When hunting for removalist quotes, look for value for money, not just price to save you in the grand scheme of moving. Whilst moving house can be an expensive ordeal, knowing the small ways to help reduce cost can make all the difference. So, if you’re soon to be moving make sure to choose off-peak periods, store up spare boxes and invest where it counts for a cost-effective and stress-free move.

Stress-Busting Solutions To Help You Settle Into Your New Home

Have you recently moved house, or have you got a moving date looming? Relocating is one of the most stressful things you’ll do. It’s up there with changing job and planning a wedding. If you’re knee-deep in boxes or tackling a lengthy to-do list, here are some tips that may come in handy.

Before you move

If you haven’t moved yet, try and plan ahead. If you can get organized in advance, this will really help when it comes to moving day. When you move, you’ll probably realize you’ve got more stuff than you imagined. It may also take longer than expected. Book some time off work, and start packing as early as possible. To save stress, get a removals firm in to help. You can tailor your package to include packing and unpacking, or just the actual move. Some companies offer a list of services, including international and interstate moves. If you’re looking for firms, you can see these movers here.

The first night

After a day of heavy lifting and climbing endless flights of stairs, you’ll want to relax. The last thing you need is to be trying to track down pajamas or find the kettle in a kitchen full of cardboard. Label your boxes when packing, and create an essentials kit for the first night. Put together an overnight bag with toiletries, a change of clothes, and sleepwear. Pack a box with everything you’ll need immediately. You may want coffee, tea bags, and some cereal and bread for the morning, for example. Most of us don’t want to think about cooking after a long day, so check out the local takeout options and put your feet up.

Once you’re in your new home, you can then do an online shop, to save you time and effort. You can choose your delivery slot, and you don’t have to worry about traffic or carrying heavy bags.

Tackling priority jobs

Have you got a list of things you want to do in your new home? If so, it’s important to decide which tasks are going to take priority. It’s impossible to get everything sorted straight away. Think about what you actually need to do to live comfortably. Once the major things are ticked off, you can focus on the details. You may wish to get your bedroom, the bathroom, and kitchen sorted before the spare room, for example. Be methodical when it comes to unpacking. Sort out the boxes you’ll need before those that are going straight into the attic.

Asking for help

Moving house is no mean feat. If there are people around offering to help, don’t turn them down. Invite friends and family over to help you unpack or even just make you a coffee when your energy levels are running low. You’ll get through jobs much faster if others muck in.

If you’re moving house, every little helps! Take these tips on board to keep stress at bay. Ask for help, investigate removal services, and try and be as organized as possible.

Good luck in your new home!

Five Things To Organize Before Moving Into A New Home

You’ve spent the past few months packing up you old home into cardboard boxes. Moving day is getting closer and closer, and the excitement of a new house is building! Don’t blow your good mood by forgetting to prepare the house you are moving into, though! A new home is essentially an empty shell, and no one wants to live in such a sparse space. Even if it is just for a few nights while you try and get sorted. So how can you move into a comfortable and livable home? Here are five things to organize before moving into a new home.

This is a photo of a light mint green old VW beetle car in front of a wodden house with a white fence in a residential area in a typical american street. There is a yucca palm tree in the lawn of the house. The sun is shining brightly.

Air Conditioning

If you are moving in the middle of summer, it is a good idea to get some air conditioning arranged in your new home before you move in. If possible, turn on the Air Conditioning the day before you move, so the air will be fresh and cool on the day. Sometimes you might not be able to get into the property before moving day. Therefore, you can’t install an efficient air conditioning system in time. So pop in a portable fan or air conditioning system on the morning of your move. This can freshen up the rooms while you bring in all your boxes.

Kitchen and Bathroom

Most of the time, you will move into a home which is already furnished with a kitchen and bathroom. However, if your home is going to be empty, one of the first things you’ll need to organize is a kitchen and bathroom installation. As with the air conditioning, it is best to try and get all this sorted before you move in. If you don’t have access to the property until moving day, try and negotiate with the previous owners. If you explain that you would like to put in a kitchen and bathroom before you move in, they are likely to understand. They may be in a similar situation themselves!

Flooring

Flooring can often be a problem when you move into old properties. Homeowners rarely update their flooring, so you may find that you want to replace the old flooring in your new home. Especially if it is made from a natural material, such as wood, as these can scuff easily. Rather than moving in all your furniture and then having to move it again when you get new floors, try and arrange new flooring for before you move in. This will be much easier for you in the long run!

New Address

Don’t wait until you have moved in to notify your bank and other important institutes of your change in address. Tell them in the run up to your move. It doesn’t take long – you can update addresses online most of the time. This is then one less job to do once you are getting settled into your new house.

Once you have got the above jobs sorted, you can start to think about the day of the big move! Once it’s all done, you will have fewer jobs and more time to make your new house a home!

A Reliable Self-Storage Company Can Help You Get Your Life In Order

Our homes are our sanctuaries from the rest of the world. Your house is the place you go to be away from work or school or your other daily obligations. It is also, in the words of the late comedian George Carlin, a place for our stuff, and sometimes that stuff can get out of hand. We can accumulate so many things that it becomes hard to find a place for it all. If you are cleaning and organizing your home and realize there is no place to put a lot of the things you still want to hold on to, it may be time for you to consider self storage as an option.

An increasing number of Canadians are looking to self storage as a viable solution for handling those things we simply don’t have space for in our homes or businesses. Canada is in fact the second largest storage market in the world, and the Self-Storage Association, based in the United States, reports that Canada has over 3,000 such facilities nationwide. The facilities range from small companies where the owner may have only one location, up to corporations that have nationwide chains. To find out more about some of the self-storage facilities available to Canadians, you can visit www.centronstorage.com/self-storage-toronto.

After realizing that you need such a facility to suit your needs, picking the right one becomes the next priority. It is important to use a reputable and professional company. Modern facilities should have the latest hi-tech security and conveniences such as motion detectors and surveillance cameras. They should be clean and be well-lit for night time access. A good facility will offer a wide variety of storage space sizes and be climate-controlled to offer optimal protection for your belongings. Your possessions must be safe and secure and you must be able to get at them conveniently when you need to. Find the lowest rate that you can, but from a company that is reputable and a facility that is secure and you will save money plus have peace of mind.

While the self storage industry is still based primarily in the United States and Canada new facilities are springing up around the globe. They are a popular option for small business start-ups to keep their merchandise and can be a good temporary place for the belongings of people who are moving and have had their closing go through on their old house before they are able to move into their new home. They are also an excellent tool for those of us who simply need to get our lives organized. They offer the extra space we need for those items we don’t want to part with but also don’t currently have room for at home. If you have been searching for a solution to the overflow of items in your home or business, self-storage may be your ideal solution.

Go The Distance By Hiring A Canadian Moving Company For Your Cross-Canada Trip

Many people have made the mistake of moving across Canada without the assistance of trained professionals. Most of them have ended up regretting that decision. If you’re about to relocate across the country, you know that packing up the contents of your apartment and moving it far away can be a very difficult thing to do. Even moving across town can be challenging. Instead, it pays to hire someone with the knowledge and expertise to handle your belongings, especially the fragile items. According to the Office of Consumer Affairs, much of the stress that comes with moving could be relieved by getting the right people to do the job. They recommend that long distance clients intending to move across Canada do their research and select one of the reputable moving companies in Canada, instead of attempting the task themselves.

If you’re moving across Canada, you will have to considerthe multiple complications that can be encountered. Items could get lost, destroyed or damaged and the farther you are travelling, the harder these items are to replace. Professional movers are experienced and will come equipped to deal with those problems. Your precious belongings will be properly secured and strategically positioned in the truck to prevent possible damage. They have the right packaging material to add an extra layer of protection to the items so they do not endure any wear and tear during the cross Canada trip. They can cover the costs of your possessions up to a certain price, should they get lost, damaged or destroyed.

Professional long distance moving companies in Canada are committed to giving their customers the best service possible. In Canada, the cost for long distance moves is typically determined by the weight of the items you’ll need to transport, the distance you’re travelling, how quickly the items are to be moved and the time of the year in which the move occurs. While many of these factors can’t really be changed, do not worry. The prices between companies are competitive and the moving terms are usually made clear. Certain ones may even match a competitor companies rate and discuss the terms of your move to find the best possible solution. In fact, the moving service can be customized to help ease the financial burden that often comes with long distance moves.

It is best to make an inventory of the things that will likely be moved in order to get an early estimate from the moving company. This could help to determine what you should get rid of before the move or what supplies and items need to be added to the moving list. Check if the company abides by the Good Practice Guidelines For Canadian Movers. Find out if the company is insured and has a worker’s compensation certificate. The Toronto-based company Rent-a-Son offers services for moves between provinces and even across the country. Clients can visit the Rent-a-Son Long Distance page to book a free estimate. They come with their own line of vans and include professional storage facilities, so you can be sure that your personal property can be taken care of. Once you get your move organized with a reputable company, the only task you’ll need to worry about is how to enjoy the scenery across Canada while the movers do the rest.

Moving Day

Moving is tiring and somehow annoying because you have to packed then unpack your things, but it is also exciting most of the time especially when you are going to move to your dream house.

Anyway last Friday it was our busy day because we have to pack and closed the boxes that we are going to carry to our new apartment. The moving company came to our apartment early in the morning of Saturday and the moving journey went well as our things are all ready.

When we arrived to our old apartment, all we had is one big box and two big bags, look what we accumulated in three years (see picture above). We had 14 boxes and 3 big bags, oven and furnitures.

Moving Boxes

In few weeks we are going to move into  a new apartment, my husband transferred to another school and  we have to move closed to his work place. It was a week ago since we started collecting big boxes from Lotte Super, we already have a few and last night we planned to get more so while my husband is shopping for freeze chicken breast I am busy undoing the box, there’s only one big box left and it turns out too they are out of chicken.

So we decided to go to Emart Everyday to find if they have the chicken we want, on the way I found a large box. When I look inside it is empty, the box is not a normal box it is a type of box which is normally use in shipping fragile items.  I took it but it was too large to carry and it might be shameful if I am carrying a large box to Emart Everyday so we decided that I should go home with the box and my husband will go alone to Emart Everyday.

On the way near the Dunkin Donuts I saw a file of boxes it was probably from Hang Ten or Watsons, their new stock probably arrived. As much as I want to stop I didn’t do it anymore because it is already hard for me to carry the large box and other people might thought I am a garbage picker.

Collecting used big or large boxes from the supermarket is more economical than buying moving boxes, our new apartment is not going to be that far anyway, it is around 4-5 kilometers from where are living but of course we are still going to hire a truck for moving.
